After many years of not having a fair or midway rides in Jena, residents of the Jena area were delighted to once again partake in the fun of a fair without having to drive to other cities.
The North Central Louisiana District Fair Association (NCLDFA) brought the Spring Fair to the old Jena Fairgrounds Wednesday through Saturday of last week and officials were pleased with the turnout.
Due to limited space on the grounds (a fence has been erected separating the Jena Rodeo arena area from the rest of the fairgrounds) there wasn’t enough room to bring in as many amusement rides as in years past, but attendees didn’t seem to mind as smiles were seen throughout the week.
Many years ago, the Jena Fair was a staple in the fall. It included livestock and competitions for various food events. NCLDFA Chairman Jake Long said that plans are to make the Spring Fair an annual event.
