The LaSalle Lady Tigers have started softball season with a bang. The Lady Tigers are off to a 9-2 start this young season and the ladies have come out of the gates swinging some hot bats.
The team is sporting a .442 batting average and a .504 on base percentage. The slugging percentage of .730 is no joke as the Lady Tigers have 13 big flies on the season. This team is not just about the offense either, as they can play some shut down defense. The one-two punch in the circle of Rheese Martin and Landry Long have been lethal. These two girls are carrying a 1.40 ERA with 90 K’s and 13 walks between them.
On Thursday, March 6, Leanna Womack collected three hits in four at bats, as the Lady Tigers defeated Grace Christian 127. Womack hit a solo home run to left field in the third inning, singled in the second inning and singled in the fifth inning. The Lady Tigers came back to win despite trailing 7-1 in the second inning. LaSalle scored five runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. An error scored two runs and Rheese Martin homered to center field scoring two of those runs. LaSalle took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Klaire Fenoli scored after tagging up on a sacrifice fly and Mattie Parham doubled to center field, scoring a run.
Landry Long earned the win for the Lady Tigers. She allowed two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking two. Rheese Martin started out in the circle for the Lady Tigers, allowing five hits and seven runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking none. LaSalle amassed 14 hits in the game. Leanna Womack and Klaire Fenoli each collected three hits for LaSalle. Lana Childress led the Lady Tigers with three RBI’s. Kinley Morris, Allie Murphrey and Rheese Martin each collected multiple hits for the Lady Tigers.
On Friday March 7, Landry Long struck out 10 batters as the righthander led LaSalle past the Bunkie Panthers 11-3. Long allowed two hits and three runs over seven innings while walking three.
The Lady Tigers scored seven runs in the sixth inning on the way to victory. An error scored one run and Mattie Parham singled, scoring two runs. Landry Long singled, scoring a run. Addie Taylor singled, scoring one run and Allie Murphrey singled, scoring two runs. A double by Klaire Fenoli put LaSalle on the board in the bottom of the second. LaSalle totaled 14 hits in this contest.
Long provided the pop in the middle of the lineup with three RBI’s. Long went 2-4 on the day. Allie Murphrey set the tone at the top of the lineup going 3 for 5 in this game. Mattie Parham, Lana Childress and Klaire Fenoli each collected multiple hits for the Lady Tigers.
On Saturday, March 8, Rheese Martin struck out 18 batters in seven innings. Martin allowed zero runs on two hits and only walked one on the path to a 7-0 victory.
The Lady Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Lana Childress doubled down the right field line, Rheese Martin doubled to center field, and Landry Long grounded out, each scoring a run.
LaSalle scored again in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo homer by Mattie Parham on an 0-2 count. LaSalle collected 11 hits in the game. Allie Murphrey led LaSalle going 3-3 in the leadoff spot. Kinley Morris and Mattie Parham each collected multiple hits for LaSalle.
Also on Saturday, the Lady Tigers defeated Neville 10-0 thanks in part to six runs in the fifth inning. Leah Steen doubled, scoring one run, an error scored another run, Allie Murphrey doubled, scoring one run, Lana Childress singled, scoring one run and Rheese Martin doubled, scoring two runs.
LaSalle opened the scoring in the second inning after Landry Long homered to center field, scoring two runs. LaSalle added to their early lead in the third inning when Mattie Parham singled and Addie Taylor grounded into a fielder’s choice, each scoring a run.
Long started in the circle for the Lady Tigers giving up two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out 9 and walking none. Rheese Martin replaced Long and tossed one inning of zero-run ball in relief. Martin gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking none.
These ladies are on a mission to compete for a District 3-1A championship along with a trip to Sulphur, Louisiana. Catch a game when possible and you can watch some of the best softball in the state. Hope to see you at the games.
