Lady Tigers 1-1 in District Play

The LaSalle Lady Tigers played three games last week, two District 3-1A contests and one non-district game, and by the end of the week, their district record stood at 1-1.

On Tuesday night, January 14, the Lady Tigers fell during their district opener game in Olla against the Lakeview Lady Gators 66-46.

LaSalle finished the first quarter strong, only trailing the Gators by 3 points. A brutal second quarter of foul trouble and turnovers was to blame for the 16-point halftime deficit.

The Lady Tigers would settle down at the halftime break and come back to cut the lead to 12 points a couple of different times in the second half before fouls started cutting into the lineup. The final score of 66-46 does not tell the story of the second half.

The Lady Tigers were led on offense by Mattie Parham with 30 points and 18 rebounds. Leanna Womack added 6 points, Lana Childress 6 points, Leah Steen 4 and Cammie Estis 2.

The Lady Tigers, with this loss, fell to 9-7 overall and 0-1 in District 3-1A. The Lady Tigers still remain #16 in Division 4 non-select basketball. This positions the Lady Tigers for a first-round home game in the playoffs.

The Lady Tigers will have to continue to win some games to keep this position. The girls seemed to understand the urgency as they traveled to Downsville on Thursday night, January 16, to take on Downsville Charter. Downsville was never in this game and the Lady Tigers picked up a huge win by the final score of 51-9. The starters for LaSalle barely got on the floor after the first quarter.

The Lady Tigers were led on offense by Mattie Parham with 15 points. Following suit on the offensive end was Leanna Womack with 12, Jessica Seamans with 4, Victoria Seamans with 2, Jules Beaubouef with 2, Lana Childress with 3, Harlee Nowlin with 3 and Landry Long with 2. The Lady Tigers scored at will during this contest.

On Friday night, January 17, the Lady Tigers traveled to Northwood-Lena for their second district contest of the week and left the Rapides Parish school with another huge win by the final score of 45-25.

The win allowed the girls to improve their district record to 1-1 and also helped with their power point rankings. (Individual stats were not available due to early press deadline.)

This week, the Lady Tigers were scheduled to play St. Mary’s at home Tuesday, January 21, for a district game but as of early Monday morning, it was not certain the game would be played due to incoming winter weather.

They are set to be back at home Friday night, January 24, to take on the Logansport Tigers for another district contest.

Let’s pack the gym to cheer on these girls that are working hard to make this school and community proud. Hope to see you at the games.
