It was in a muddy rice field in Vietnam many decades ago that a young Brandon Phan stood barefoot with his sister watching a US plane fly overhead, and cried, “Come get us. Come get us. We want to go to USA! Come get us!” The plane, however, continued on its way and the brief incident wouldn’t seem meaningful until many years later.
