This time of year, I cannot help but remember my own first day of school experiences from when I was a child. 1954 was the year I started first grade. Before school started that fall, we would drive by the school on occasion so that I could see where I would be spending my time. It looked fine to me, very stately, all that a school should be to a six-year-old mind.
