JM Breland of Route 1 Trout, in the Fellowship-Belah area, is the first LaSalle Parish farmer to report the ginning of a bale of cotton grown in LaSalle parish this year. Mr. Breland’s cotten was ginned last Saturday morning at Jonesville and netted 490 pounds. Permission has been granted to the LaSalle Parish Police Jury to call a special election for Nov. 2 for the purpose of voting on a two-mill roads and bridges maintenance tax, to run for five years and produce an estimated $100,000 in revenues, according to Vannah Poole, secretary-treasurer of the parish agency. This week at Save-Way, a 10 lb sack of Gold Medal flour is 89 cents, Sunshine Cracker 19 cents for a 1 lb box, and Community Coffee is 89 cents per pound.
