Boy Scouts of America, the parent organization of Scouts BSA Troop 14 and Cub Scout Pack 14 of Jena, has recently changed its name to Scouting America. The name change has not altered the mission – to prepare youth for lives of positive purpose and impact by challenging them to live the Scout Oath and Scout Law. The Scout Oath reminds us that we each have a duty to do our best in serving God and country, other people and ourselves. The Scout Law lists specific principles to help in accomplishing our duties: “A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.” Below is a brief summary of some of the activities Troop 14 participated in during the first half of 2024 to help accomplish Scouting’s goals: In this six-month period, the Troop has provided nearly 300 hours of service to various activities and organizations while enduring cold, heat, storms, skunks and more.
