Members of the Central Louisiana Amateur Radio Club participated in a national amateur radio exercise Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and 23, at the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Range. Events like this are held at least once a year to hone skills and demonstrate ham radio’s ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location. Two LaSalle Parish residents, Perry and Suzan Nelson, shown on front row second and fifth from left, are members of the club. Also shown at far left is LaSalle Sheriff-Elect Lane Windham.

Jena Residents Participate in HAM Event
“It’s hard to explain exactly what Ham radio is about just sitting across a desk talking, but for someone to see it in action allows them to appreciate all that can be done to assist in the event of a disaster,” said Jena resident and Ham radio operator Perry Nelson discussing why he invited Sheriff-Elect Lane Windham to the annual Central Louisiana Amateur Radio Club’s (CLARC) national radio exercise Saturday, June 22.
