Lydia Smith of Jena, LA, was recently awarded a $2,500 WoodmenLife Focus Forward Scholarship . Smith, a WoodmenLife member, submitted an application highlighting her high school academics, activities and volunteerism, as well as an essay on patriotism.
Smith, the daughter of Blanchard Carl III and Samara C. Smith, is currently a freshman at Louisiana Tech, majoring in Pre-professional Speech-Language Pathology. When she’s not studying to maintain her 4.0 GPA and spot on the President’s List, Smith can be found participating in the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association. Within the next four years, she hopes to obtain a bachelor’s and master’s degree to become a Speech Language Pathologist.
“I am so incredibly grateful to have received this generous scholarship,” said Smith. “I can’t begin to explain the impact this this award will have on my ability to afford school!”
WoodmenLife has been providing scholarships since 2017 and has given more than $3 million to 5,202 students across the country who are pursuing higher education at trade schools, colleges and universities. This year, the scholarship program will award 578 scholarships, with amounts ranging from $500 to $10,000.
