Peaceful. Serene. Beckoning. Ageless. Stepping into the sanctuary of the historical Eden Methodist Church on Highway 8 in LaSalle Parish immediately transports one back in time. The wooden pews, the simple design, the pleasant acoustics - all deeply touch the soul and connect the heart to past faith and those who practiced it. One can almost hear the voices of long-gone worshippers lifted upward in praise and the exhortations of past ministers as they preached the Word of God. The sanctuary, though now quiet and tranquil, only grows more beautiful with age, and stands as a testimony to those who once gathered there. Believed to be the oldest Methodist Church west of the Mississippi River below the Mason-Dixon line, its roots reach back as far as 1788. It is one of the most historical buildings in La-Salle Parish and its history is rich and lasting.
