The Jena High School powerlifting season is underway with a large number of boys and girls competing for the Giants.
The Jena High School powerlifting season is underway with a large number of boys and girls competing for the Giants.
The boys’ powerlifting team consists of 15 lifters and the girls’ powerlifting team has 26 members.
On January 6, the boys’ team competed in a preliminary meet at Pickering High School. Two Giants, William Stevens and Jason Dean, won first place in their weight class.
Samuel Knight placed second in his weight class and Aiden Palmer, Zachary Scales and Landon Cockerham placed third in their weight divisions.
The Giants will compete in the State Regional Powerlifting Meet set for February 17 at Pineville High School. Those that place high enough at the regional meet will go on to compete in the State Meet set for March 23 at the Cajundome in Lafayette.
The Lady Giants’ Powerlifting Team has not had a meet yet but are getting ready for their Regional Meet set for February 24 at Pickering High School. Those that place high enough in regionals will go on to compete in the State Meet set for March 22 at the Cajundome in Lafayette.
The Lady Giants are returning two lifters from last year who finished on the podium at the state level, Hannah Stapleton and Deondria Jones.
