During their first regular meeting for the new year, the Urania Town Council approved to sell a parcel of land. The land for sale is Block 6 of Lot 12, a .58-acre lot owned by the town.
“This lot that we are bidding off is over off South Pine Road. It is a little over a half-acre,” Mayor Jay Ivy stated. “The town owns several lots, and we are going to start bidding a few of them off. We have several people asking about developing them.”
Sealed bids will be received at the Urania Town Hall, in person or by mail, until noon on Friday, March 1. The bids will be opened at the regular monthly meeting on Monday, March 4. There is a minimum bid amount of $2,000.00.
The Council also approved of department reports, with Mayor Ivy providing each report.
“For water, we are still waiting on the new meters to be installed,” Mayor Ivy said. “I have tried calling. Though we were supposed to get them in December, I haven’t been able to get in touch with them.”
The Mayor is hopeful that they will come in during the month of January so they can be installed by spring or summer of this year.
According to the sewer report, Mayor Ivy updated that they are still receiving bids for a project at the sewer treatment plant. The work will involve spraying a liner in the tank.
“For sewer, we have received one bid so far,” Mayor Ivy explained. “We are still taking bids on that project.”
For the police report, the department wrote 81 citations and collected a total of $9,174.33 in fines and fees during the month of December.
According to the fire department report, Mayor Ivy stated that the department assisted Tullos with one structure fire on Sumrall Street.
During the Mayor’s comments, Mayor Ivy boasted of the success of the December events hosted by the town.
“The Senior Citizen Supper and Santa in the Square was very successful. We had a good turnout at each event,” Mayor Ivy said. “We had around 80 people at the Senior Citizen event.”
Mayor Ivy went on to thank the local Pentecostal church for providing food and music at the Santa in the Square event and thanked the local fire department for helping and serving at the Senior Citizen Supper.
With no comments or concerns expressed by the Council, the meeting adjourned in a record time of 4 minutes and 52 seconds.
