The LaSalle Parish Police Jury will be called upon to appoint someone from District 5 to fill the seat of Robert “June” Fowler due to his sudden death Saturday, November 4.
According to Louisiana Law, in the unfortunate circumstance that a Police Juror dies during his term, the Jury shall appoint someone from the district of which the Juror was elected to serve in his place until a special election can be held to elect a new Juror from that district.
Jury Secretary/Treasurer Abby Whittington noted that the law also instructs the Jury to appoint someone to fill the vacancy within 20 days following a death of a juror.
Members of the LaSalle Parish Police Jury met in regular session Monday night, November 13, and on the agenda was the item to appoint the replacement for Fowler.
Due to this newspaper’s Monday press deadline, information from that meeting will not be available until next week’s issue, however, the new appointee has been posted to The Jena Times’ social media accounts.
