LaSalle Parish voters will join the rest of Louisiana in October as they face one of the largest election ballots since similar offices were voted upon four years ago.
Across the state, voters will be choosing the next Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Treasurer, Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry and Commissioner of Insurance.
LaSalle will also be voting on their State Senator for District 32, State Representative for District 22, State Representative for District 20 and BESE District 5 Representative.
Locally, the parish will be voting on the parish positions of Sheriff, Coroner, Clerk of Court, Assessor and Police Jury members.
Voters will also face a ballot measure from the LaSalle Parish School Board, a proposition for a one-cent sales tax for the purpose of school safety, construction and employee supplemental pay.
Town of Urania voters will be voting for an alderman to fill the unexpired term of Bill Brown.
Parish candidates choosing to seek election for the October 14 Primary Election must qualify with the LaSalle Parish Clerk of Court August 8-10. Federal and state candidates must qualify with the Louisiana Secretary of State at the Louisiana State Archives located in Baton Rouge.
The deadline to register to vote in the Oct. 14 election is September 13 (in person) or September 23 through the Geaux Vote Online Registration System.
Early voting will be held September 30-October 7 (excluding Saturday, Oct. 1).
On election day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Any runoffs that are needed will be held at the November 18, General Election.
Early voting for the runoff election will be November 3-11 (excluding Sunday, Nov. 5).
Once qualifying is held, The Jena Times will publish a complete list of all candidates.
With this issue of the newspaper, voters have 16 weeks (just over 3 months) to decide how they will vote prior to the October 14 election.
