Felissa “Sunshyne” Gibbs Anderson departed this life on November 4, 2022 and transitioned to her heavenly home.
A beautiful, bouncing baby girl named Felissa Gibbs was born on September 23, 1967 to the late Warfield Gibbs and the late Bobbie Sue Gibbs in Crossett, Arkansas.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. She later relocated to Jena and graduated from Jena High School. She went on to further her education at Southern University in Baton Rouge where she graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. She continued her education at Southern University and also received her Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Her two main passions in life were education and children. She really believed children were the foundation of our future.
She later moved to Texas and settled in Houston, Texas. She held many positions within the education system: teaching, coordinating and administrating for 20 plus years. She was affectionately called “Sunshyne” by her family and friends. She had her first and only child ‘N’ Chantress Anderson on February 2, 1997. Her favorite words to say to her daughter as a reminder that she and I were each other’s everything. “Flesh of my flesh, bone of my bone.”
Felissa was a Principal at Texas Can Academy Chartered School in Dallas, Texas. She was a God fearing woman of Christ who loved her students unconditionally. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Her favorite thing to do was to watch the sunrise on the beach. She was my world and my personal sunshine. Traveling and seeing the world was her muse. She made sure her partner in crime (her daughter), was right there to see God’s beautiful creations with her.
A Homegoing Celebration of our dearly beloved was held Saturday, November 19, at 12 p.m. at the Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church in Crossett, Arkansas with Pastor Bianca Canley, officiating.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her one and only daughter N’Chantress Anderson of Houston, Texas; sister Deborah Gibbs of Crossett, Arkansas; nieces Nikki Gibbs and Krystal Ballard; nephew Brandon Ballard; great nieces Debreesheia Cuerington and Taraji Williams; great nephew Nijal Merchant; special sister Darlene Simon; special brothers Eddie Simon and Perry Williams; God children Joshua and JaCobi Simon; and a host of other family and friends.
