(Editor’s Note: Michael Walker was one grade behind me at Columbia High School, and was very popular. He graduated in 1959, and in the early 1960’s joined the U.S. Air Force. I remember in 1969 when his parents received word that Michael was missing in action. Dr. John Cooksey, about the same age, grew up in Olla and both young men were fighter pilots in Vietnam. In 1999, while serving as U.S. Congressman from the Fifth Congressional District, Cooksey went to Laos to meet with the Joint Task Force on MIAs. He was instrumental in helping recover the missing pilot, bring some closure to Capt. Walker’s family.)
