Seventy years ago last Friday, June 6, the Americans, British and Canadians stormed the beaches of Normandy in the largest amphibious invasion of Europe since the Persian king Xerxes invaded Greece in 480 B.C. Victor Davis Hanson, a classicist and historian at the Hoover Institution and Stanford University, summed up the events of that era in a classic column that we’d like to share with our readers.
